9-12-2006 East District CC Championships, Galashiels

Ten haries set off down the A7 to the Borders for the final big race of 2006. The course for this yearthe rolling hills to the west of Gala, with the course raising and falling over almost 500 feet. The women had two laps of hills and mud to cope with (6.4km) and the men 3 laps (10km).

In the women's race Rowena Bell-Scott was first home for the emerald green (18th overall) and first Under 20, closely followed by Hannah Edwards (21st overall), who was also second Under 20. Both ended up with a nice shiny medal for their efforts. Mhairi Mackensie (33rd) enjoyed a solid run, followed by Briony Curtis (67th). The women's team finished 4th overall.

The men's race saw a very strong field of over 200 athletes. Scott Fraser finished a very impressive 4th place, just one second behind the 3rd place athlete. Other results from the lads included Gwyn Bellamy (17th), Oleg Chepelin (24th), Ben Cole (26th), Duncan Coombs (33th), Robbie Kerr (39th) and Huw Jones (91st). The men's team finished in 4th place overall and was awarded second under 20 team (Oleg, Duncan and Robbie).

Generally a successful day showing the current talent within the club, with both the men's and women's teams just outside the medal places.
