Cap'n Cole Speaks:
"Well done yesterday everyone, banter on the bus on the way back was amazing, heard rumours of Dazza serenading Harie ladies - is there anything the legend can't come out with?? or am i just stirring....and we had every reason to celebrate.....
Amazing performance from the Girls, I don't think I've ever seen a team dominate a cross country race like that, great seeing a string of haries right from the front of the field. Special mention must go to Anna for the silver medal and Hannah for an amazing race that must make you Champion potential in later years. You show us boys how it's done.
Guys, you all fought through that mud tooth to steel and we gave a classy Srathclyde side a right run for their money in a tough field. It made me very proud to see a string of haries right behind me on the second lap and the results say it all - B's third placed team and C's fifth. Couple that with the Girls' victory and we are still the team to beat in Scottish University Cross Country - no one else comes close! Scotia - silver medal, great individual performance in a field of such qualtiy. Class act.
I'm well proud to be Captain this year, I feel the passion and desire of this Club out-does previous years and the atmosphere last night - like Christmas had come early.
I think the thing to take from this Guys, is that we can't rely on previous years of good results to carry us through. They don't mean a thing on the day - every year is a new year with new people and we need to treat each victory as a genuine achievement, rather than a right or even an expectation, as I feel has been the case. The Strathclyde boys are our rivals for a reason - they are damn good and we beat them last year because a rule on countback fell in our favour - by one place.
We have the rest of the season ahead of us, an (attainable) top four in BUSA to achieve and top five in the Scottish Nationals. And one thing is certain - we have a young squad and we will be back next year with a point to prove and a third trophy to collect. Looking forward to it already. Here's to competition!"
