This year’s event takes place on Saturday 18th November, with online entry now OPEN!
The Braid Hills Cross Country Races are held annually by Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds. They take place on a challenging 5km loop course situated between King’s Buildings and the Pentland Hills, and surrounded by great views of our beautiful city. The two races, a 5km and 10km, are popular with both local club runners and universities from around the British Isles. The Facebook event for this year’s races can be found here.
Our new sponsor for this year, Bodyworks Edinburgh, will kindly be providing pre and post race massage for £5 at the event. Just show your number and take advantage of this great opportunity!
There will also be race t-shirts available to purchase for £8 (Hare and Hounds club members) or £10 (non-Harie members).
Advanced entry costs £6 for students and Scottish Athletics members, and £8 otherwise. There is an additional charge of 50p to enter on the day.

Registration and Race Start
There are two races to choose from:
- 1 lap (approx. 5km) – start 1.30pm
- 2 laps (approx. 10km) – start 2:15pm
Registration is at KB House, King’s Buildings (West Mains Road), from 11am – 1pm.
Changing and showering facilities are available in KB House. Please note there are no toilet/changing facilities at the course.
The course is undulating and often wet, with one steep downhill on each lap. Fell or studded racing shoes are recommended, but not spikes as much of the course runs over a gravel bridle path. There is approximately 180m of ascent. See the route here!
After the Race
Results will be announced and presentations made in KB House, as soon as possible after the races have finished. A range of prizes, thanks to our generous sponsors Run and Become, will be awarded to teams and individuals. These will include gift vouchers and numerous varieties of alcohol. We will also be selling tea, coffee, and yummy cakes, so you can refuel with homemade goodness.
The results will also be made available on this website as soon as those responsible for them have recovered from the inevitable side-effects of the Braids afterparty.
The Post-Braids Ceilidh and Afterparty
Afterwards we will be having our legendary ceilidh, along with haggis, neeps & tatties! To round up the night we plan to head to our SU to dance the night away. Tickets can be bought at the race and on the door, but please let the race organiser know if you plan to attend and of any dietary requests, to ensure we have enough food!
Staying in Edinburgh
Basic overnight accommodation in an Edinburgh student’s flat can be provided for visiting University teams if they contact us in good time prior to the race. Teams wishing to do so and in need of any further information should talk to the Race Organiser.
